About Me

Hey there, I’m Maria 🌝
I solve problems through storytelling and content strategy.

I have a background in menswear e-commerce and reviews in publishing.

As a Parsons the New School for Design alumnae and a former menswear designer at Jackthreads, an e-commerce retailer, my time in the fashion industry has given me intimate insight into the design process, business stakes, and marketing strategies applicable to a digital space.

As a current editor in the reviews side of publishing, I read and evaluate children’s, YA, and adult manuscripts to select the best books slotted for publication in the upcoming year. Beyond looking for relatable characters, believable worlds, and memorable plots, I am responsible for the UX and UI design of new features and functions added to our ever-evolving content management system, JEDI, which the editors use to organize, record, and inform their day-to-day workflows.

I practice prioritizing tasks based on the resources we have and the projected positive impact it would have on overall team productivity. My business goals are to develop solutions to streamline existing digital workflows, translate manual workflows into digital workflows in intuitive ways, and make JEDI more user-friendly, when possible. I propose my solutions to my managers and collaborate with third-party developers to implement these designs. My mock-ups are used to estimate development costs and forecast the annual tech budget for our department.

In reading, I have found companionship in characters who are most profoundly human in how they navigate their worlds. The most enduring of stories are ones that reveal and revel in our human flaws. As yet another form of storytelling, the digital experience can affect us just as viscerally as a tangible product. It is the element of interaction that gives a single story a thousand lives, colored by each user’s personal journey.

I am based in Hillsboro, OR.
